Unit 3 Blog

1.          Based on your reflections, and on a scale of 1 to 10 (ten being optimal wellbeing), where do you rate your A-physical wellbeing, B-spiritual well-being, C-psychological well-being? Why?

Physical well-being: 7.5

Spiritual well-being: 10

Psychological well-being: 8.5

2.          Develop a goal for yourself in each area (physical, spiritual, psychological).

My goal for my physical well-being is to get my body fat, and lose weight. I have chronic knee, and back pain so losing weight will reduce the amount of pressure on both areas. I really don’t need much work spiritually. I am at piece for the most part, but I could pray more. I haven’t been praying as much as I use to. I suffer from PTSD, and depression so I do need to work on things psychologically, I have been doing great, and I am not as dependent on medication as I once was.

3.          What activities or exercise can you implement in your life to assist in moving toward each goal?

I have modified my diet, and added more cardiovascular activity to help reduce my weight. I also increased my recovery time to help with the healing process. I just need to set aside some time to pray more for my spiritually. My psychological well-being will continue to be a work in progress, meditating, and taking time to reflect has really helped in the process.

4.          Complete the relaxation exercise The Crime of the Century. To hear this exercise, click here. Describe your experience. (What it beneficial? Frustrating? etc.)

I found the exercise to be relaxing. I really never tried using my imagination during meditation. I was a bit harder for me to relax while trying to think about those different colors. As the process continued it did get easier to do. I enjoy learning new things, so this was well worth it.

Unit 2 Relaxation Practice

I found this MP3 to be very relaxing. I do these types of practices regularly, so it didn't take much time for me to relax. I actually relaxed to much. I was so focused on relaxing that I fell asleep. I found the speakers voice to be extremely comforting. He kept a light tones, and a smooth rhythm in his speaking voice. I do some yoga so following his instructions were like second nature, and helped my to relax that much faster. I think it is very important for people to practice these type of practices, especially for those people with very stressful occupations. Taking a little time out for yourself could really help improve our quality of life, and it will really reduce the pressures of stressful events. I have PTSD, mild anxiety, and depression, but these types of practices have really helped me deal with these issues in a positive manner.

Unit 2 (Introduction to Aariss)

Hello,
My name is Aariss Youngstown Ohio, but I currently live in Texas. I have 4 brothers, and 3 sisters. I am a U.S. Army Vet, and I served for over 9 years prior to getting out July 17 2010. During my time in the military I did 3 tours in Iraq, so I have deal with my far share of stressors. After leaving the military I spent 1 year 10 months in Afghanistan servicing our troops as a Property Book Offer or PBO. I really enjoyed working with the troops, but due to mental health I had to leave earlier then I planned. After leaving Afghanistan I joined Kaplan January 1st 2013. I have been dually enrolled in Kaplan, and Central Texas College studying Health and Wellness, and Kinesiology. It has been hard at times, but very rewarding.
